Today is Valentine's Day 2010. It is not a scriptural holiday per se, but it commemorates the value of LOVE.
Traditionally, ones mind is toward romantic love. The love of a believing husband and believing wife cannot be surpassed by any two human beings on this earth. At least it need not be surpassed. Speaking for my own marriage, it was the next most wonderful gift God gave me after my salvation. Of course, He created me. John was the best earthly husband I could have had. He loved me, honored me, supported me, prayed for me, encouraged me, delighted me...and what more can I say? He gave me 4 wonderful children and together, with prayer and God's guidance, we sought to raise them for the Lord. John has been with the Lord for nearly 2 years. The Lord was good in allowing him to know 12 of his 13 grandchildren. Some of them even share their memories of him with me.
Today, I want to say how blessed I am to have the Lord Jesus, Himself as my Husband. He is so wonderful and everyday brings me new delights. He has been my Lord and Savior many, many years. In an even more intimate way, He cares for me, meets my needs, delights in me and LOVES me.
Because "God is love" He demonstrates it by GIVING. He gave me His Son. He gave me eternal life when I believed on Him. He gave me His Holy Spirit to indwell us and fill me. The list goes on and on, and it will take all eternity to appreciate all He has, is and will give.
On Valentine's day, we often like to think of children. The original story of Mr. Valentine (true) involved a little girl. When he was in jail, they sent notes back and forth. One of the last notes was to her, reminding her of God's love, even though he knew he would be put to death.
"And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love, abides in God, and God in him." 1 John 4:16
Jesus is truly "Sweeter than the day before."
